Abstract A solvent extraction-silanization derivatization-GC-MS/MS method was developed for the determination of 42 volatile and semi-volatile organic acids yield in total particulate matter of cigarette mainstream smoke, while the yield was calculated as per burn tobacco weight. And it contained 13 short-chain fatty acids, 7 middle-chain fatty acids, 10 long-chain fatty acids and 12 other organic acids. The results:① Oriental tobacco produced the most of short- and middle-chain fatty acid; flue-cured tobacco produced the most of long-chain fatty acid; organic acids yield for burley tobacco was not outstanding; ② The yield of volatile and semi-volatile organic acids decreased with leaf position changing from the upper to the bottom; ③ Volatile and semi-volatile organic acid yield for Wuyi ecology region tobacco was the highest among eight typical ecology region tobacco.
